Bullying

Bullying. We’ve all heard of the word. In fact, there are many different types of bullying, for example, physical bullying, cyberbullying, verbal bullying, etc. Bullying proceeds to happen a lot at school or over text. You would think only younger kids and teenagers bullied, but that's just a myth. Bullying is actually one of the main reasons for suicide. Being bullied is practically getting made fun of. For example, you could get made fun of for what you’re wearing or the way you look and really the way you act. But not only can bullying affect the person getting bullied, but it can also affect the bully him/herself.

Physical bullying can be a serious problem, not only the victim and the bully, but also someone that witnesses it. Physical bullying can take many forms, such as hitting, pushing, tripping, slapping, spitting, and stealing someone's prize possessions. Physical bullying is the type to occur more at school. Middle school seems as if that's where bullying occurs a lot. Bullies may have any number of reasons for bullying others, such as wanting more control over others and wanting to fit in. Bullies are often physically stronger than their victims and have friends who are fine with their behavior.

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over an electronic device, as in social media. These days cyberbullying mostly occurs over texting, sending mean things that can actually hurt someone, especially someone’s feelings. Cyberbullying includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false, or mean content about someone else. It can include sharing personal or private information about someone else causing embarrassment or humiliation.

Verbal bullying is when someone who is a bully uses insulting or demeaning language to mock, embarrass, or insult another person. People that do verbal bullying have low self-esteem and really they just want to bully others to feel good about themselves.

A way to prevent bullying is definitely telling someone, as in an adult, school staff, and any other caring adult that's willing to put a stop to it. Bullying can threaten students’ physical and emotional safety at school and can negatively impact their ability to learn. The best way to address bullying is to stop it before it starts. So, if you are standing there witnessing someone getting picked on as in bullying, don’t just stand there, go tell an adult. If anything, do what you think is the right choice.
