ICEBOX Update

As many of you may know, our school’s library is going to be under a change very soon. The icebox is a project that our very own seventh grade science teacher Mrs. Keeling is in charge of. The library is going to become the ICEBOX and and The LOCKER. ICE means Innovate, Collaborate, Educate. L.O.C.K.E.R. stands for (Library of comfort, knowledge, and enthusiastic reading). The budget for this room is $35,000. We have received an anonymous donation of $1500 and a $1000 grant from Consolidated Communications.

To get some ideas, teachers and students from the PJHS Unknown PBL went to Taylorville Junior High to look at their Stem lab and H.O.T. Spot. They all came up with an idea to make those two rooms into one, in order to benefit us. The ICEBOX and the L.O.C.K.E.R. then were soon created.

Pana school's library has been the same place for sixty-eight years. The ICEBOX will increase the following skills in students: Collaboration, Teamwork, Creativity, Imagination, Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Flexibility, and Technological Literacy. I have realized due to the fact I’m a student and I hear things and through interviewing people that some people don’t like that technology is becoming a huge thing. But as a former student once said, “Technology ain't the worst thing in the world.”

Some objects that will be in the ICEBOX are an IPad Tripod, 3D Printer, large televisions, and, multi-Chromebook hubs. Some of the things the L.O.C.K.E.R will be getting are new flexible seating, a new drop box, a few new bookshelves, and a new paint job. Mrs.Keeling and all the others involved hope for the ICEBOX to be completed by the 2020-2021 school year.
