Shedd Aquarium Trip Recap

Shedd Aquarium Trip Recap

Friday, April 5th, the 7th graders took a trip to Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Illinois. Shedd Aquarium has been up and running since 1930 and

features a whopping 32,000 animals! There, you’ll meet sea otters, lake sturgeons, giant river turtles, blacktip reef sharks, and so much more. We even got to experience not only a movie where real life water sprayed you, bubbles floated past you and your seats rumbled. The trip to Chicago was about four hours long both ways. We stopped to use the bathroom and get snacks once both ways.

Upon arriving at Shedd Aquarium, we were greeted with a crowd much bigger than we are used to. After that, the groups set off to go explore. The first show of the day was Coastal Predators in the 4D theater, which opened in 2009 as part of the renovation of the Abbott Oceanarium. The 4D experience includes a 3D film with interactive seats, high-tech audio, and interactive elements like water and bubbles. Films shown have included Coastal Predators, Sea Monsters, SpongeBob SquarePants, Planet Earth, Ice Age, Dora the Explorer, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (seasonal), and the Polar Express (seasonal). The show was breathtaking, getting sprayed with water and shaken, and seeing the lights under the seats got everybody's adrenaline going. After the show, we were set off with our groups to go explore before the next show. We saw many, many, many remarkable creatures.

We also had the opportunity to touch starfish, which personally I think was very cool. We also got to go into both of the gift shops. Although the gift shops had some pretty cute, cool, and funny things, everything was overpriced in my opinion. After our second explore we were able to see another show, which included dolphins, an owl, seal, and some games. The trainers and their animals put on a wonderful show. The dolphins were very well trained. The seal, which loved barking and copying its trainer, was one of the highlights of the show. The first event in the show was the announcer choosing three people, which one of our very own got chosen for to play some games. The chosen people each played a game. After the show, we were set off too explore again, and we had the opportunity to see many more interactive objects and interesting creatures.

The bus rides and one stop each way were loud, fun, and even sometimes relaxing. In my opinion this trip to Shedd Aquarium was a great memory for the seventh grade class.
