Summer Construction

Summer Construction

As many of you know, our school is going to be under construction this summer. When sixth and seventh graders come back from summer break, the school will look completely different.

We are already starting on this million-dollar project. The contractors are working on the roof now, since we haven’t moved anything out yet. We are going to move all the stuff out of every room into the gym or cafeteria since they have already been re-done.

We are getting new floors in every room except for Mr. Savage’s office. It isn’t getting re-done because he has wires under the floor that are for use in every school in Pana. Austif’s company, or AAA, is repairing our floor. We are replacing every tile in the school. They are doing this because it needed an update, and because of Asbestos. Asbestos is this mineral under the floor, and it causes cancer. If we somehow breathe it in, it could cause health problems. Don’t worry, though, it is not dangerous unless it is disturbed.

PJHS is also getting a new paint job this summer, probably with some brighter colors. We are not getting new lockers, but they might be repainted as well. As for the bathrooms, four of our six are getting remodeled. The bathrooms by the office and the bathrooms by Mrs. Ade’s room are the ones getting redone.

Along with all the construction we are doing, we are also starting the Ice-Box. The Ice-Box is a technology room. There is going to be a color printer and a 3D printer, and half of the library is going to be taken up. The crew is putting a wall to seperate the library and the Ice-Box. They are also adding a wall where the lounge area is; therefore, there will be no lounge area in the library. New flooring, tables and desks will also be added, as well as new technology. We are also getting a podcaster. Next year, if we have a newspaper class, we can maybe make a newscast with the podcaster!

Some teachers have their own opinions with the construction. Mr. Schmitz says he is psyched and he thinks it’s going to look nice. Mrs. Mathon says she is excited and not worried about moving things out of her room because she doesn’t have a lot. It sounds like most of the teachers are excited about this project.

Along with the school being redone, the track and the football field are being upgraded as well. They are re-surfacing the track, and it is going to look nice. They are also re-sodding the whole football field. It is going to look even better than it does now.

The school is going to look very nice next school year, and everyone is very excited.
